Installing Max/MSP/Jitter

Briefly, Max/MSP/Jitter is an audio-visual development environment (that's a mouthful!)

Read the Documentation

Your documentation should all be inside the main MaxMSP 4.6.2 folder, in a few nice, neat PDF files. Adobe Acrobat can open them, or Preview on Mac OS X. You should also have some folders full of Max "patches," which are files that contain the instructions for Max/Jitter to work its magic.

Patches contain the raw programming instructions for the MaxMSPJitter editing program. When you open them in Max, you'll see a bunch of funny little square boxes connected together by lines called "patch cords." Think of patches and patch cords like the USB cord connection between your mouse and computer - it's a bunch of electronic data flowing from one thing to another.
