SoundShell :: concept :: A new musical interface

(a fragment of SoundShell)
The six different fragments in each row can be "turned on" by shining a red laser on them. When they are on, the sounds that they have collected merge with the rest of the sounds in their layers, and a "shell" of sound is formed.
Also, SoundShell's layers can be "broken" and "compressed," like what happens to an abalone shell over time.
"Punching" in the air at it "breaks" a layer of sound, causing some the sounds that it has captured to split apart and break off, according to a special algorythm.
"Pushing" in the air at it compresses the sound in a layer, which acts on the collection os shounds like squeezing a bag filled with rocks of different sizes.
"Pulling" in the air at it stretches the sounds in a layer, like pulling on a bag filled with different-sized rocks.
