Hours spent in the lab this week produced a soldered mess of a circuit board.
Attempt number 2 was successful - a working MIDI test board using a removeable PIC16F876 microcontroller.
The problem before was that the breadboards I used had too high an impedance, and so the
very finicky 20mHz oscillator wouldn't always oscillate properly. That, in turn, disrupted MIDI signals
sent from the PIC, to the point where the breadboard setup was completely unreliable. Everything needed
to be soldered together.
